You’re never too full for dessert, right? Given that you’re in Italy, the land of incredibly high-quality and delicious food, it is an unspoken rule you must round off every meal with a good gelato. Milan is full of gelaterias, so it is hard choosing which ones to eat at. Here is my personalized list of the 5 best gelato shops in Milan.
Table of Contents
Out of the Box
Ok, I may be slightly biased because one location is minutes away from my apartment. HOWEVER, Out of the Box serves up some amazing gelato flavors and is constantly rotating their menu. In fact, they also offer a handful of gluten-free and vegan flavors.
Gelato Giusto
What I love most about Gelato Giusto is that they give unique themes every month with rotating flavors. For example, recently they had a “tea-themed” month, so the rotating flavors included: matcha, earl gray, and green tea. Don’t worry, if sticking the OG flavors is your thing, they have all of the staple flavors as well.
Ciacco
If you head to Ciacco on a warm, summer day, there is a high probability that you’ll be waiting in line. Don’t fear – it goes quickly and it is well-worth it! They have many of the classic flavors, but if you’re feeling adventurous they also offer some very unique ones (think: mango curry or strudel). Despite my initial hesitation, I’m always shocked at how incredible these quirky flavors end up tasting! Ciacco truly knows how to pack a flavorful punch into a small cup – it is not wonder they frequently make the list for the best gelato in Milan.
Crema
If you are in the posh Brera neighborhood, I recommend making a pitstop at Crema. It’s located off of one of the main roads and given the status of the neighborhood, this gelato is best enjoyed on a nearby bench to observe some of Milan’s best people-watching.
Sartori
Sartori has to make the list of one of the best gelato shops in Milan. It’s a staple! It is a small stand that was founded in the 1930s and still operates near Milano Centrale station. It is usually bustling with locals who stop by between work meetings or want a pick-me-up after getting off the train.
There are many, many more great gelato spots than just these 5 in Milan, so I’d love to hear your other favorites.
